Speaker 1:

Welcome back to Unbox the Inbox with me, your host, gary Redmond. On this podcast, you'll learn how to grow your subscription business using the power of free and mostly automated email marketing, and we'll hopefully have some fun doing it too. I'm a co-founder of BusterBoxcom and also a mentor and coach, helping founders like me and you create their dream life through their online business. Okay, so today's episode, I wanted to have a quick look into the future and kind of talk a little bit about what's been working differently for us in 2024 and what I think will continue to work and be even more important going into 2025. Okay, so previously, with BusterBox, a lot of our emails were quite graphic based, okay, and like, obviously we have, we have strong visuals. We have, you know, happy dogs, good pictures of our boxes, things like that. We have strong offers, you know, and big call to actions and buttons, okay, and those are all great if you can get them right and they will continue to work, and they do continue to work for us. Um, but we don't rely on them solely. In fact, we rely on them probably for less than 50 percent of our emails now, which is weird because when we first started sending emails, you know, a big move for us in a positive direction in 2022, 2023 sort of time, or 2021 to 2022, was we were getting sort of we got this agency, we have email designers. Now we have like all the emails look really good and they all converted really well in that time frame and in that period of time. But what we're actually finding now is a lot of our sales and a lot of our emails that we're sending that are getting out of sales, are actually text-based, so they're just like white emails.

Speaker 1:

Now, obviously, it's important that the emails still have those elements I mentioned. You want to grab attention, especially in the first line. You want to be relevant to why you're emailing them. For example, hey, I'm emailing you, we have a great offer for you. Hey, it's, you know it's Wednesday today. Hope you're having a great week and you're looking forward to the weekend. This is what we have for you today, okay, but the actual design of the emails, as I said, they're text-based, okay. So you know the offer is very, very important and the reason why you're emailing them is very, very important. And also the calls to action okay, and making sure that you're saying you know, click over here to get to get this offer okay. So, um, another thing that's really working well in these emails is to kind of have a bit of a story or a personality. Okay, so what we've been sending is like, for example, let me actually talk you through one of them here. So one of the things that we've been doing quite a lot is to have some sort of as I said story or some sort of relevance to right now as to why we're emailing you. Okay, so, like, here's one here hey, this is like, for example, hey, this is your dog, something happened that I wanted to tell you about here. It was Okay. So here's an example we can say a variation of hey, there, our Black Friday offer is flying out and we don't want your dog to miss out.

Speaker 1:

Speaker 1:

This offer is selling out very fast, so please don't delay, as you'd hate to let your dog down. Click here to claim your free bed and blanket blanket combo. Okay, so what's going on here? What you'll notice is that, number one it's a very short and simple email, and the language is very simple and very direct. Okay, hey, there, like that's just a greeting, our black friday offer is flying out and we don't want your dog to miss out. Okay, that's your offer.

Speaker 1:

First thing, first things first, and you've got scarcity. Okay it's, we don't want your dog to miss out on this. It's selling really quickly. Here's exactly what you're going to get offer part one the bed offer. Part two the blanket offer. Part three a secret discount that will only be revealed on checkout. Again, curiosity. Okay, if you were thinking about joining, now is the time. Why? Now Take advantage to claim all this free stuff. We know your dog will love it and it'll be the best Christmas ever. Click here to claim your free bed. It's selling out fast, so don't delay. Click here to claim your free bed and blanket combo.

Speaker 1:

Okay, so it's very, very simple and what we keep saying it's like dumbed down, okay, um, and it's working really, really well for us. And it's like no even images in the email whatsoever, which is crazy compared to what we used to do. Um, and another one that we do, and another sort of tip on top of on top of this is to kind of something we've started to do a lot in september and october of this is to kind of something we've started to do a lot in September and October of this year is to have a little bit more balls. And what does that mean? Okay, I mean like a bit more personality in your business and a little bit more sort of edginess in our brand. Now, it may not be perfect for your brand, but we've noticed that when we started doing this, we started to get a lot more sort of engagement and reaction from our emails. Okay, so, like, here's another one hey, this is your dog.

Speaker 1:

Something happened I wanted to tell you about. Yesterday at the park here he was sniffing some butts, chasing my ball and minding my own business and doing my business and a poo emoji. Anywho, I overheard some other dogs talking about this thing called Buster Box. Now get this. These stupid dogs told me an entire company exists just to make them super happy. How ridiculous that sounds. How ridiculous does that sound? Then it hit me. I went on to poogle and it turns out to hear it's true. They are real.

Speaker 1:

These guys and gals literally go and find or create the most fun, exciting toys that exist anywhere and then they get delicious, healthy treats that they know I will love and package it up and send it right to our door just to make me happy and excited and feel super loved by you. Please, please, please. Can you sign up for me? Wwwposterboxcom? I would do it, but you've got the purse strings and the thumbs. Right now they've got an offer where you can get that would get me more excited than chasing a squirrel. You can also get a free dog bed and free teddy blanket Just for making me the happiest dog ever ever. Probably going to make you happy too, but who cares? Really, the free stuff is all here. This is linked. The free stuff is all here. Yes, just click here to get started. Sign up today and I promise not to poop anywhere or chew anything you don't like for at least a couple of hours. Review human from your dog. Ps, if I were you, I'd get it soon.

Speaker 1:

These offers are probably like those sneaky squirrels those frickers can get away quickly. So, again, it's. It's a lot. It's a lot of bollocks, in many ways, like it's just, but it's an angle okay, like another thing that I think it's going to really really like.

Speaker 1:

What I think overall is going on here is having some personality, having some stories, keeping things very simple and very obvious and very benefit driven. As to, this is what you can get. I have it for you here no images required, no sexy designs or whatever, but with like AI and everything coming out nowadays, I think it's just. You're in there's an age of generic kind of coming out Okay, and I think where we're going to succeed in 2024 and 2025 is to just be more direct.

Speaker 1:

Obviously, offers are key, obviously being you know, like you know, certain sort of marketing strategies with urgency, scarcity, but really having a personality and telling some stories that actually, can you know a human generate a story? You know, like this is something that an AI would never write? Okay, because it's just from the mind of me. It's like no, but like it's not something that you know you're going to really be thought of by an AI, okay, so I think just being more and more authentic, telling stories and being really, really simple with your customers in language through your emails is going to hold you in good stead in 2024 and 2025.

Speaker 1:

So that's really it for today's episode. As I mentioned, you know, text-based is working really really well, story-based and really really, really well story-based and really really simple language, but also just having some personality and in your communications with people, especially through email, seems to have been working wonders for us for the last two or three months. I wanted to share with you. So I hope that episode was helpful.
